Redan de gamla grekerna...
Jag har för mig att det var grekerna som använde flera lager linne ihopplimmatt med hästlimm som rustningar. Denna kunskap är dock från en ung Ludvig som läste roliga historieböcker i mellanstadiet så källan är sedan länge bortglömd (Boken hadde i alla fall fina billder).

Kan det vara Peter Connollys böcker, tro? "Grekiska arméer", "Hannibal och romarriket" och "Den romerska armén"? :)

De finns f ö i en omarbetad samlingsvolym med en del ytterligare material, fr a en hel del källkritiskt resonerande (den versionen vänder sig till en vuxen publik) under titeln "Greece and Rome at war", som finns åtminstone på Uppsala universitetsbibliotek.

Om man beckar dem (eller annan liknande behandling) för att få dem vattentåligare, sabbar man då inte den kylande effekten eftersom man rimligen bör hindra avdunstningen, med efterföljande överhettning på slagfältet som följd?

Men det finns inga som helst källor på att någon någonsin har använt det, troligen eftersom det man brukar se som fördelen med "aketoner", "gambesoner" och "jacks" är att de är mjuka och flexibla (och relativt lätta, inte rostar och kan bäras istället för ytterplagg).
