Vi kan alltså sluta oss till att man har kunnat löda, ev. till och med hårdlöda. Man använde Borax som flussmedel tidigt och loden var silverhaltiga eller rena kopparbläck som smältes i ässjan. Men om vi försöker få klarhet i några av mina andra funderingar.

1. Är grytan i Mästermyrfyndet lödd eller är den nitat eller något annat. På de bilder jag har sett går det inte att se hur den är ihopsatt mer än att det är en hakfog, jag ser inga spår av nitar.

2. Vad kan det vara för järngrytor som nämns i en del litteratur som allmänna under medeltid? Är det järnåldersgrytorna som lever kvar eller är det en tanke som stödjer sig på mer antagnaden än arkeologiska belägg?

Borax, vilket ju är det man använder idag när man väller, används väll inte som fluss annat än bland guldsmeder under medeltiden, om jag inte minns fel. Att nita/välla fungerar säkert på en gryta med hakfog, men jag funderar hur den faktiskt är gjord, jag har inte lyckats hitta det någonstanns. Att välla en sådan lång fog kan inte ha varit lätt och fogen mot botten var säkert inte lättare.

En annan sak jag funderar på är om det finns järngrytor under medeltid. Om man läser i "Medeltidens ABC" så står det att de grytor som fanns var av järn och koppar, jag hittade en bild på i någon annan bok (kommer inte ihåg vilken, jag börjar bli snurrig av detta letande) där det var en medeltida målning av en gryta och det stod "cast iron" i den moderna bildtexten vilket jag har fått för mig betyder gjutjärn och inget annat. Det jag kan tänka mig är att man under tidig medeltid har fortsatt använda de gamla grytorna, man sluta knappast använda dem innan de var helt slut. Allternativt har man återanvänt andra saker tex hjälmar för att använda som grytor (kolla nedanstående länk). Men vad gjorde man senare, 12, 13, 14, 1500-tal? Varför slutar man använda järn som material till grytor när vi får masugnarna som borde ha gjort järnet billigare?

Nitvälla ju väldigt coolt och historiskt. Mindre coolt är det om man misslyckas med vällningen och allt blir tunnare och tunnare tills man tvingas slänga skiten och börja om....

"Borax (Natriumperborat) finns det belägg för som flussmedel från tidig medeltid."
Källa finns inte men det är troligt att det var en kemikalie som inte varje smed hade i bakfickan eller? Jag är ingen smartbyxa i kemi, det går säkert att framställa ur bajs eller aska eller ngt annat medeltida.

Uppsatsen nämner också dessa flussmedel, kan vara fel läste inte så noga. Rubrikindelningen är inte kung här....
