Jag tror ändå inte att bilden föreställer ett lila mellanplagg och vit väst med "helvetesfönster", men erkänner villigt att tyskt sent 1400-tal inte är ett av mina specialområden.

Den här typen av ärmar (eller vad det nu är för någonting) är väldigt vanliga i avbildningar från 1400-talet. Jag har själv funderat på vad det skulle kunna vara för någonting, och om det är en ärmlös doublet (en väst) som has över någonting annat.

Mitt intryck är att det handlar om ett av de vanligare sätten att skära till en doublet (tröja) under 1400-talet. Det är inte så vanligt på bilder från Skandinavien, men i de Schweiziska krönikorna och i många tyska manuskript förekommer de hyfsat frekvent, så jag tror inte att det är en avbildning av ett äldre dräktsskick.

Det framhävda bröstet och den oerhört markerade midjan förekommer gång efter annan i avbildningar och det finns en skräddaranvisning från början av 1400-talet i Frankrike som talar om stoppade bröstpartier etc som verkar syfta på ett skrädderi som gör detta möjligt (har inte urtexten till detta men jobbar på det).

Modet som nere i Europa förefaller har ganska mycket gemensamt med de kläder soldater och krigsfolk har har kanske ett samband med denna skärning. I södra Europa och Burgund (även England) finns de puffiga axlarna, som sannolikt kommer från det militära axelskydden. Skärningen på "västen" ovan påminner väldigt mycket om ett senmedeltida harnesk. Kanske finns ett samband.

Det kan förklara varför han har olika färg på delarna på "jackan" någor som (vad jag vet)inte ses i samtida manuskript. Kanks ehar illustratören tittat på gravmonument och annat som inte är färglagt och se'n tyckt att det verkar coolt med ärmar i annan färg.
